Conditions

Admission Priorities:

Reception to Year 8.

i) All applicants must complete a BESA registration form and provide a full and current school report in English. Applications are first reviewed during early May for entry in the following school year. In order to be considered at this time, complete applications (this includes the application fee, school reports, photos, any required assessment and/or interviews) must be received by the BESA by 30 April. Applications received after this time will not usually be considered until August. Pupils arriving in Ankara during the school year seeking immediate entry will be assessed as they apply.

ii) Provided they meet the normal admission requirements the following criteria in order of priority will be used in order to offer places in any age group:-

1) Children of the staff of the British Embassy, the British Council, the British Institute of Archaeology and the children of other British Government employees, identified as UK-based staff

2) Children of the staff of the British Embassy, the British Council, the British Institute of Archaeology and the children of other British Government employees, identified as locally employed staff

3) Siblings of current pupils

4) Order on the waiting list* by Date of application*

The waiting list is the group of pupils who have met the agreed standard, but for whom there were no places available. Assuming the pupil makes progress during the year to reach the agreed standard, applicants shall remain at this position on the waiting list.

If a place becomes available during the year the same criteria will be used.

iii) In the selection process, priority of admission will be according to the pupil’s (and parents’) level of English.

iv) Siblings will not automatically be accepted if the appropriate class is full.

v) Where all other factors are equal, priority will usually be given to children who have already begun their education in an English-medium school.

Nursery

i) Admission of all applicants is contingent upon available places.

ii) Priority will be given as for Reception to Year 6 (see above).

iii) Children accepted into the Nursery will not be guaranteed automatic entry into Reception.
