Looking Back...
The British Embassy Study Group was originally founded in 1959 and existed as a kindergarten school in two rooms of the British Council, attended by a small group of children. Since that time the school has moved twice and each time it has expanded and its facilities have been extended and upgraded. The school moved to its present site in the diplomatic grounds of the British Embassy in Ankara in 1964.
Over the past 50 years, the school has grown and grown, currently educating 150 children in 2009. The current head teacher, Mrs Dawn Akyurek, was appointed with effect from September 2007. Although it is a British school, teaching the British curriculum, it is very much an international school, welcoming children from all parts of the globe. BESG has proudly educated 75 nationalities over the past half century.
